return false;\" class=\"read-link\" id=\"readlink1236540973\" style=\"readlink\" href=\"#\">Read More<\/a><\/span>\n<div class=\"read_div\" id=\"read1236540973\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\nChronic foot ulcers or chronic lower extremity ulcers are persistent injuries on the foot that do not demonstrate signs of healing after 3 months of appropriate treatment or have not fully healed within 12 months.<br \/>\nThe following are included in the category of chronic ulcers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Diabetic Ulcer<\/li>\n<li>Venous Ulcer<\/li>\n<li>Arterial Ulcer<\/li>\n<li>Ulcer of Mixed Etiology<\/li>\n<li>Pressure Ulcer (Decubitus)<\/li>\n<li>Malignant Ulcer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An ulcer may shift between categories, for example, a chronic diabetic ulcer can become acute after surgical debridement.<br \/>\nChronic ulcers affect 0.6% to 3% of people over 60 years of age, and over 5% of individuals aged over 80. Venous ulcers are the most frequently occurring type of lower extremity ulcers, accounting for approximately 70-80% of cases. Arterial ulcers are encountered in roughly 10% of cases, while mixed etiology ulcers account for 15%. They are a result of poor arterial circulation and are mainly observed in patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease, Diabetes, and Lower Limb Ischemia.<\/p>\n<span class=\"test\"><a onclick=\"read_toggle(592205158, 'Read More', 'Less'); return false;\" class=\"read-link\" id=\"readlink592205158\" style=\"readlink\" href=\"#\">Read More<\/a><\/span>\n<div class=\"read_div\" id=\"read592205158\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\nPeripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), also known as Peripheral Vascular Disease or Occlusive peripheral arterial disease, is a condition where the buildup of fatty deposits in the arteries restricts blood flow to the leg muscles<sup>3<\/sup>. Approximately half of PAD patients are asymptomatic, while common symptoms include fatigue, pain, cramps, or severe muscle pain in the legs during activity, which subsides with rest.<sup>4<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The final stage of PAD is Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI), an extremely serious and challenging complication in which intense burning pain persists even at rest, and wounds and ulcers on the legs do not hea.<sup>13<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>If not promptly and effectively treated, arterial ulcers can lead to limb loss. The incidence of amputation in PAD patients is 3%-4%<sup>4-5<\/sup>. Diabetic patients are at a greater risk of developing complications in their feet, such as Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN), which causes a lack of sensation in the feet, and Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), the symptoms of which can include non-healing foot ulcers, leading to infections and even amputations<sup>9<\/sup>.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<span class=\"test\"><a onclick=\"read_toggle(770657488, 'Read More', 'Less'); return false;\" class=\"read-link\" id=\"readlink770657488\" style=\"readlink\" href=\"#\">Read More<\/a><\/span>\n<div class=\"read_div\" id=\"read770657488\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<div class=\"keim_aks3_1\">\n<p>According to the Guidelines of the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot, diabetic ulcers develop in 2% of patients annually, and during their lifetime, 19-34% of diabetic patients will develop diabetic foot ulcers. Even after complete healing of the ulcer, the risk of recurrence reaches 40% within one year and 65% within three years<sup>10<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>In 85% of amputation cases, there is a pre-existing diabetic ulcer on the foot, and approximately half of patients who have undergone amputation will experience amputation of the other limb within 3 years<sup>11<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Not all diabetes patients are at risk of developing diabetic ulcers. Those at higher risk include patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease, loss of protective sensation due to Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy, and foot deformities. In these patients, reduced or complete loss of pain, touch, cold, and heat sensation leads to risks, such as injuries from tight shoes or burns due to the loss of heat sensation. Furthermore, due to poor blood circulation in their lower limbs, wound healing is very difficult for them.
